“remember,
you were a writer
before
you ever
put
pen to paper.
just because you were not writing
externally.
does not mean you were not writing
internally.”
― Nayyirah Waheed
At IDHA, we believe healing is a revolutionary and creative act. Caring for ourselves and one another is a deeply creative practice that affords us the opportunity to reinvent our relationships to our experiences, our bodies, our past, present, and future, and one another.
We seek to lift up this principle by hosting our second virtual Community Open Mic on Monday, April 27th! We seek to not only ignite the radical imagination of our community, we also aim to create a culture where we embrace ourselves in our totality. Like Waheed’s quote above, “we are writers before we ever put pen to paper.”
For this open mic, we will again pose questions about transformation and alternative ways of healing. Please stay tuned via IDHA’s Instagram and Twitter for community based questions as they are developed over the course of the next few weeks.
Art pieces will take many forms, including poems, songs, visual art, or otherwise. Members can present art both old and new, some repurposed for this open mic and others created specifically for it.
Register in advance via Zoom to join. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join. Sign up to present at the Open Mic here.
Note: Sliding scale donations are accepted and deeply appreciated. A donation of any size (made via Eventbrite) helps sustain programming at IDHA for the months to come.
